In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of fulfilling their mission, which is to support existing businesses in thriving and growing in our community while facilitating strategic business expansion opportunities. As the Commercial Credit Underwriter, you’ll be responsible for coordinating economic development loan requests. Your key tasks will include building vital relationships with various businesses, connecting them with community partners, and offering project management guidance to meet the unique needs of retention, expansion, or attraction loan clients. This role calls for a multifaceted individual capable of project management, relationship building, commercial credit analysis, and technical skills necessary to work with a diverse range of small businesses seeking funding for growth.
You’ll primarily be based in Lancaster, PA, with occasional travel within the county and the surrounding region. The Commercial Credit Underwriter will support deals with credit exposure ranging from $100,000 to $20 million.
Duties and Responsibilities
This role involves the following responsibilities:
- Thoroughly understand the rules and requirements of economic development loan tools used to assist small businesses with real estate and equipment financing needs.
- Evaluate eligible business and agricultural project opportunities, assembling financing structures that deliver quality outcomes to clients and the community.
- Conduct in-depth pre-qualification analysis of financing requests for creditworthiness, rule applicability, and eligibility.
- Collaborate with local businesses for financing and help them complete their projects.
- Oversee the coordination of loan applications and credit memos in collaboration with the Credit Manager and Director for Finance Board approval.
- Act as a liaison between the organization’s credit department and the borrower, ensuring the accuracy of credit memos.
- Actively participate in underwriting for larger and complex projects.
- Ensure clear communication of key project information and maintain broad knowledge about each project in collaboration with the internal project management team.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, financial partners, third parties, and internal project management teams to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Independently analyze and troubleshoot issues, monitor and report on key trends, impacts, and portfolio ramifications.
- Build and maintain relationships with various lead sources, including accounting, law, and banking firms, to promote economic development tools and services.
- Stay well-informed about all organizational initiatives, policies, and procedures to share information during business visits and networking opportunities.
Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Strong commercial credit and/or commercial lending knowledge.
- Preferred three years of relevant industry experience.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building and customer service abilities.
- Proficiency in documenting key information using multiple software platforms.
- Strong project management skills.
- Willingness to receive training for a variety of economic development financing tools.
- Valid PA Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation for occasional local travel.
Security Clearance Requirements
This position requires the completion and submittal of U.S. Small Business Administration Statement of Personal History (Form 1081), fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $75,000 to $85,000 annually, depending on skills and experience. A generous benefits package is also offered.
