Tri-Starr is recruiting a Bookkeeper for a Lancaster-based education services organization. This role supports the Accounting Manager with day-to-day fiscal and clerical duties, with a strong focus on accuracy, customer service, and teamwork.

 

The Bookkeeper is responsible for performing bookkeeping functions, assisting with budget preparation and financial reporting, reconciling accounts, and maintaining the general ledger. All responsibilities are carried out through the lens of high-quality customer service for both internal and external clients.

Job Duties

  • Provide high‑quality customer service to internal and external clients, including prompt response to inquiries, professional communication, and proactive problem solving.
  • Perform bookkeeping functions, including journal entry preparation, budget preparation, financial reporting, account reconciliation and analysis, monthly close activities, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Support effective financial management of strategic business units by developing and distributing meaningful financial information (e.g., program aging and customer history reports) to program administrators.
  • Input, edit, and post journal entries in a timely and accurate manner, creating and maintaining appropriate source documentation.
  • Attend meetings as requested to support budget development and financial reporting.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and Treasurer’s reports as assigned.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with year‑end closeout activities and reporting for assigned programs.
  • Post monthly invoice payments, PayPal receipts, direct cash, credit card receipts, and ACH/wire transfers; reconcile monthly accounts receivable deposit batches to bank statements.
  • Assist Business Services department personnel in preparing for all types of audits.
  • Complete assigned projects on time, including account reconciliations, account analysis, PowerPoint presentations, and historical/trend analyses using charts and graphs.
  • Answer telephone inquiries from customers and internal clients and route questions or concerns to appropriate program staff for follow‑up.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Required

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent coursework, and 
  • At least 2 years of related bookkeeping/accounting experience.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Comfortable with accounting software and related technology
  • Ability to use PowerPointAccess database software is helpful
  • Strong data entry accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-directed and able to manage priorities and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Tact, diplomacy, and the ability to handle confidential data appropriately

 

Type: Temp-to-Hire 
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (30-minute unpaid lunch)
Location: On-site – Lancaster, PA 
Pay Rate: $25-28/hr
Dress Code: Business casual
